Self Hypnosis or Shelf Hypnosis?

Self hypnosis is usually thought of as a process where a person listens to an audio tape, mp3, or other mass produced hypnotic media presentation designed to induce a trance state. This state then guides the person to absorb suggestions about a specific topic to help motivate them to lose weight, stop smoking, develop greater confidence etc.

Unfortunately, these kind of generic hypnosis sessions are usually recorded by a hypnotist who has never met the listener. Due to every human being individual we all have different life experiences and perceptions of the word and even words. This means that very often the sessions include suggestions that have an unwanted effect on the listener and even create unpleasant imagery.

For example, if you dislike walking in forestry or in wooded areas then listening to the sounds of birds chirping and the wind whistling through the trees as you are guided to visualize a forest is not the most advantageous way to create a relaxed state. Likewise the old saying “one man’s meat is another man’s poison” is a fitting description of what can happen in a pre-recorded hypnotic session and further illustrates this point.

Not everyone shares the same values and outlook on life. Therefore generic post hypnotic suggestions may have an extremely positive effect on one person, a slightly positive effect on another and even no effect at all on some people.

Therefore a really effective recorded self hypnosis session would be designed by the person wishing to create the desired changes. However, creating a truly unique recording suited to your individual needs is one thing having the expertise to make it hypnotic in nature is quite another. So how do you overcome this problem?

One way to be sure any self hypnosis recording you are listening to is professional and can induce the required trance state, yet is tailored to you unique individual needs, is to get a professional hypnotherapist to create one for you.

There are several ways to this. Firstly, you can arrange a meeting with a hypnotherapist in your area and have at least one session with him. Then you can ask him to create you a recording. However, this will prove expensive and many therapy based hypnotists do make their recordings except for the generic ones they hand out after sessions (which are not what you want).

Another way is to train in hypnotherapy and make your own. Two drawbacks to this approach are obviously the cost involved and then the further cost to produce high quality recordings.

By far the best option is to go to a professional hypnotherapist who makes custom self hypnosis recordings with input from you. Although the hypnotist will probably never meet you in person you will still have interaction with him or her and thus be able to outline your specific needs and desires.

If you are interested in having a custom hypnosis recording made for you there are two ways you can go. On the cheaper end of the scale you have hypnosis recordings made via a computer generated voice.

On the high end of the scale (and preferable for fast and effective results) you can get a trained hypnotherapist to produce a custom hypnosis session for you.

Whichever way you choose to go just be honest with your desires and be sure to include what you really want before the session is recorded!
