Why do affirmations seldom work? We hear if self improvement circles all the time that we must eliminate the negative and affirm the positive but many people find that when they try Louise Hay type affirmations the opposite happens.
What on earth is going on?
Well when it comes to affirmations I believe that the old traditional way of just reciting what you want countless times a day is worse than useless. When you keep telling yourself that you are thin when quite clearly you are the size of a house how on earth can you have faith that what you are saying is true.
Likewise prosperity affirmations are only going to make you feel frustrated and angry when you can't even meet the rent payments!
The problem with affirmations is that they only deal with conscious thoughts. What we need to do is get to the root of any problem and that root does not lie in the conscious mind. The root of all trouble lies in the subconscious mind!
To eliminate a problem we need to kill the problem at its root within the subconscious mind - all the affirmations in the world will not do that and the frustration caused by consciously realising the affirmations you are mindlessly reciting are untrue will cause more trouble.
When you add to that the subconscious résistance you will encounter from reciting an affirmation which is clearly not based in reality you open up a whole world of trouble!
So what is the solution?
Well affirmations are not all bad. They do have their place on personal growth and self improvement. However, they should never be used in the traditional form because only about 1 or 2 % of the population gain anything worthwhile from using them that way and the rest of us have negative effects from using them!
When affirmations are used as a tool for growth or change they should only be used as a stimulant to change not to create that change itself.
When you recite an affirmation it is quite clear that what you are saying is not reality yet and your subconscious mind will let you know that through a myriad of negative thoughts, feelings and beliefs which it will immediately throw up into the conscious mind.
These are the very thoughts, feelings and beliefs that are stopping your affirmation from being true. Now that you have them in your conscious mind you can release them or let them go with a tool such as The Sedona Method.
When you release these negative from your mind you find that when you recite the affirmation again it actually feels more plausible!
This I sthe only use of affirmations as far as I am concerned - as a tool for weeding out negative programming. If you can get to a negative belief, dissect it and realise that it is not founded on truth but assumption then you can eliminate it.
