Throughout the ancient world there were countless civilizations that used The Mystery School as a form of initiation through life. To progress to higher levels within a divine order or mystery school one had to partake of rituals and strange ceremonies that marked your progression.
In the modern world these rites of passage are still marked and remembered in some esoteric circles such as The Rosicrucian Order.
In many ways these rites can be likened to our own lives and the trials and initiations that we must face in our own personal and spiritual growth.
Just like the mystery schools would require an initiate to partake of ritual and perform some highly symbolic trials and acts so too in life you must encounter trials and tribulations in order to progress to the next level of initiation.
When we learn from the hardships that life throws our way we truly do grow in every respect as human beings. Think about it for a moment - have you ever had a really bad negative experience and not learned something from it?
We often say things like "I won't make that mistake again". This is a perfect verbal account of the learning processes that have taken place as a result of the experience we have been part of.
These learning experiences are merely outward expressions of some inner belief or inner turmoil that needs changed. When we do not directly attack the belief inside us I will express itself outwardly in physical form where we must deal with it.
If we learn our lesson we will not have to repeat the experience but if we don't learn from it the same thing will keep happening again and again. If you are continually experiencing the same challenges this may be the reason why!
Of course you can use tools such as The Sedona Method to eradicate a negative belief, negative thoughts, negative emotions and negative behaviours before they ever bring you an outward life-lesson. However, you will still go through the initiation stages of life - albeit with you guiding them and enjoying the things in life that you want.
